Aboriginal Heritage
Terania Creek, located in Nightcap National Park, holds significant Aboriginal history as traditional land of the Widjabul People, part of the Bundjalung Nation. The area features ancient ceremonial and sacred sites, as well as rich cultural stories and practices tied to the land. The creek and its surrounding rainforest are deeply connected to the cultural heritage of the Widjabul People.

Historical Significance Beyond Aboriginal History:
-
Terania Creek is renowned for its role in the Australian environmental movement, specifically the Terania Creek anti-logging protests of the late 1970s.
-
These protests, involving activists physically blocking logging operations, were a turning point in the movement to protect rainforests and old-growth forests in Australia.
-
The protests at Terania Creek are considered the first direct-action forest blockades in Australia.
-
The protests led to the cessation of rainforest logging in New South Wales and the establishment of Nightcap National Park.
-
The Gondwana Rainforests in the area were later recognized with World Heritage listing.
